A wine house wanted to modernise its offering and digitalise its sales in order to build customer loyalty and attract a younger audience used to ordering online. The aim was to offer a fluid, intuitive shopping experience in line with new consumer habits.

Maison Amelin had a catalogue of 20 references divided into four categories :

  • Fine white wines
  • Fine red wines
  • Crémants de Bourgogne
  • Sparkling wines

The main challenge was to put in place an effective high-performance e-commerce solution while incorporating a complex price structure for delivery and a degressive pricing system depending on the quantities ordered.

Challenges encountered

Transition to an e-commerce platform

Customers were used to managing their orders by phone or email. It was essential to put in place an intuitive interface to facilitate the adoption of the new sales channel.

Management of a catalogue with several categories and specific prices

The company offered its wines in cartons of 10 or 12 bottles, with a sliding scale prices applied from 100 bottles.

Integration of a complex transport grid

Delivery charges varied according to 96 departments and 12 quantity levels, generating a total of 1,152 tariff combinations. We needed to integrate this grid in an automated way without complicating the purchasing process.

Securing and diversifying payments

The site had to offer several online and offline payment methods (credit card, bank transfer, cheque) while guaranteeing optimum security.

Design of an optimised e-commerce site

We developed an ergonomic, responsive online shop, making it easy to navigate and access the different wine categories. An internal search engine and filter system have been integrated to enhance the user experience.

Search engine optimisation (SEO)

To improve the visibility of the site, we have set up :

  • From engaging and unique product descriptions

Advanced settings for the transport fare structure

We have developed a system that automatically manages postage costs according to department and number of boxes ordered, simplifying the purchasing process.

Introduction of a degressive pricing system

A specific module has been integrated to automatically apply discounts from 100 bottles ordered, This is encouraging volume purchases.

Securing and diversifying payments

We have integrated online payment (CB) and deferred payment (bank transfer, cheque) while guaranteeing a secure environment.
